November 2024 Brian Morris
1. Do you have a nickname?
Legs or Mogger. Legs because I was always running and Mogger was my nickname in Liverpool
2. What is your favourite piece of running kit/equipment?
It’s got to be my Gore-Tex running jacket. I have used one of these for 40 years. It’s a must have piece of kit .
3. What is your favourite race and why?
My favourite race was the old format of The Tour of Tameside - 6 races in 7 days, 52 miles over the week with Wednesday as the day off, but some of us would look for another race that day to keep momentum going. Great camaraderie and testing yourself over multi-terrain as well as making some great friends, some of which I’m still in touch today. It was a pretty hard race
4. Any pbs that you are most proud of? (race or distance)
1 hour 11 minutes - half marathon
30 minutes - 6 miles
2 hours 30 minutes - marathon
5. What has been your worst running injury?
I’ve had 3: a collapsed lung (I was told I would never run another sub 3hr Marathon but 18 months later I ran my first 2hr 40 Marathon); Plantar Fasciitis; and tearing all my ankle ligaments and tendons
6. Improving Dasher to keep an eye on?
I think Josh Turner is one who could be pretty good
7. Where is the most exotic place that you have ever been for a run?
Mexico, although not racing, just training
8. Highlight of your running career so far
That’s got to be The Toronto Marathon in 1999. Although not my fastest I came 16th overall ,1st Brit and 2nd European. I lost to an Italian by 5 minutes but I’d missed a lot of training through my back injury, and I must give a big shout out to Allan Harle and his Auntie Joan for making it possible
9. Any hobbies we don’t know about?
I used to collect match boxes in my younger days and had quite a few.
10. Interesting fact about yourself
I used to be in the Territorial Army, and won the National TA 10k championships
11. Most interesting job (past or present)
I guess it’s the Job I’m doing now. I have been a Driver for the past 34 years with the same company and I’ve met some great people and been to some amazing places
12. Dasher you admire and why
It’s got to be my old buddy who tried for 20 years to get me to join the Dashers - Jim Taylor. He just keeps going regardless
13. Any future running ambition?
Yes - to keep all these young guns on their toes
14. Favourite song on your playlist to run to?
I don’t listen to music when I’m running - you need to be alert to everything
15. Which person, past or present, would you most like to run with?
There are numerous people I have run with over the years, every calibre of runners from the front of the field to the back of the pack and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it
16. Best thing about the Darwen Dashers
That would be meeting Alison and making some great friends
17. Any running (or other) superstitions?
I’m not really superstitious.
18. Your perfect, indulgent, post run meal
I don’t eat after running but I like a cup of tea or a beer
19. One piece of advice for a new runner
Don’t try to do too much too soon, just build up your miles slowly
20. Sum yourself up in 5 words
Shy, modest, humble, supportive & grateful
